Nanoengineered Monolithic Optoelectronics Transducers for Highly Sensitive and Label Free Biosensing

MAIN OBJECTIVE:

The projects’s main objective is the development and testing of an integrated bioanalytical device that is based on a monolithic optoelectronic transducer and capable of sensitive assays including detection of single biomolecular binding events through the use of nanoparticle labels as well as label-free detection of biomolecular interactions through photonic crystal optics. The device consists of monolithically integrated arrays of silicon optocouplers and microfluidic channels. The properly bio-functionalized optocouplers allow for real-time and sensitive monitoring of the ligand-binding reaction and enable simultaneous detection of different proteins, hormones or DNA sequences. The miniaturized device is intended as a platform for reliable and cost effective point-of-care diagnosis.
